What do you get when you have an artist who has had training in gastronomy living at your humble abode? A FEAST! That's right! Our dear friend, Blu is in town! Since he loves to cook and share his food with people, we decided to launch our all new kitchen project, Makan Jom, with Blu as our guest chef for the month of November. Blu decided to cook us an impromptu dinner with whatever we had in the fridge this evening. It was a heartwarming and tasty Blu Curry! We also had plain naan to go along with it. Mmm Mmm!
Our Makan Jom #01's registration has officially closed today. We've got our 10 diners! We do not know what Blu will cook yet. He says ,"I'd like to go to the market and ask the vegetables, what they want to become." What we know is that we have diners who have diet preferences, so the food served will definitely be pescatarian and vegetarian friendly. For those who didn't get to reserve a seat at our diners, please stay tuned for our December edition of Makan Jom (as we write, we are in the midst of confirming our next guest chefs!). You're also welcome to join us at Mi Casa Su Casa after Makan Jom at 3.30pm to speak with Blu, and catch a live jam with Blu and our friends (free entry!). Hope you had a great Sunday evening with simple and good food as we did! We harvested our basil leaves today- they're huge and boat-shaped! The yield inspired us to create a long awaited poster (we've been procrastinating) for an upcoming show, BUKU MINI, which will launch on the 13th of December. Buku mini, or 'miniature book' in Malay , will feature tiny book objects that evolved from thumb sized text blocks. These text blocks(buku mini) have been hand bound over the week and are in the midst of distribution to participating BUKU MINI contributors. Here are some e-poster design sneak peeks! BUKU MINI sneak peek's promo poster. The publicity e-poster and facebook events page with more information will come soon!
We are also in the midst of planning some workshops that will happen during the show, and a pot luck gathering too- so stay tuned! Hope you had a fruitful Sunday! Come join us as we launch our monthly creative kitchen project, 'MAKAN JOM!'. BLU SIMON WASEM, our very first artist home-stay resident, will be firing up locally-fused Brazilian dishes from 1pm, and we are looking for 10 diners to join us on this journey that will be an absolute treat for the senses!
------ Entry fee: SGD10 (to cover our groceries!) Diners are advised to be seated by 12.45pm PLEASE RSVP TO [email protected] BY 27 OCT. 3.30pm A free jam session will follow with Ila & Bani, and Jun & Zeek (PUPA), and friends! We'd love if you swung by for some post-lunch spontaneity if you can! ------ Trained in Gastronomy, BLU SIMON WASEM is a nomadic multi-media artist from Florianópolis (Brazil) who started to ferret about in experimental music in 2007, and now mainly focuses on Performance and Video Art. Originally a bassist and percussionist, Blu also plays violin, flute, handmade electronics. More of Blu here : http://vimeo.com/54335876 ------ MAKAN JOM! (LET'S EAT!/吃吧!) takes place on the first Saturday of the month, and will feature artists doubling up as a guest chefs. They will share recipes and cooking tips as they prepare a meal for you in this cozy setting. Giving insights to their lives away from their practice.
