Here's a short clip of us taking off with the trolley, with uncle shouting out to us to not worry about not returning the trolley as it does not belong to him! Enjoy!
Mi Casa Su Casa welcomed these lovelies as they became an addition to our family. They have been treated with 50 Woodlife termite repellant wood preservative and some have been laquered with a sealant for long term preservation. We couldn't have done it without John Heng's help with transporting these logs from the workshop, and the girls, Cindy Salim's & Yang Xiuting's girl power! This is them attempting with all their might to move the dead log (no pun intended) up the flight of stairs to Mi Casa Su Casa. We will also never forget Mr Zainal for his advice on carpentry work, and the use of his equipment that has put these babies into shape. There is also someone that we would like to thank, and someone who has caught our attention for some time. This is uncle, who has a knack for collecting curious junk that one would deem as trash, had actually run to get a trolley that was left behind and wheeled it to us when we attempted to bring one of these logs to Your Mother Gallery. He told us to use it. And we were very thankful. Here's a short clip of us taking off with the trolley, with uncle shouting out to us to not worry about not returning the trolley as it does not belong to him! Enjoy! Please feel free to sit on these logs and bench when you come by Mi Casa Su Casa!

Keep a lookout for Stitch A Leaf community craft project by Popin craft at Mi Casa Su Casa! Contribute to their project by spending some time stitching a leaf using the technique of cross stitch, on a bed!
Participation is free and materials are provided. Children will need to be supervised by adults. See you there! We've just put together a bench after manual sawing and sanding, made from crates we found 3 months ago. It's fairly easy to gather free crates around Little India, especially from the grocers or shops selling hardware and second-hand items. Our kind neighbour saw us working with just one saw to 4 pallets and offered us his saw. He had even showed our friend, Alex, how to use it in the right way! Thank you Uncle! Tips: Using and recycling existing pallets will help to save the environment! When scouting for pallets to up-cycle, take note that you should only get the ones stamped with 'HT' or Heat Treated as the heat treatment helps to prevent the spread of environmentally harmful insects that are capable of destroying the wood. Some Updates! 27/07/13 No More Splinters!
The bench has been sanded down manually and is currently parked outside Mi Casa Su Casa. It will be used for displaying Ujikaji Records' items! At the mean time, anyone who visits may rest on it. Another 3 submissions came in today!
2 from Japan and 1 from Malaysia but delivered personally to the doorstep! Ferdi's envelope is bent in half though - the postman had actually tried to fit it into the postbox... Takumi's parcel finally got released by the post office. And Joanna's sculpture reached Mi Casa Su Casa on a motorbike intact! We've been busying ourselves with some woodwork today! A few months back, we managed to get logs from fallen trees which were cleared on Sentosa island to build the current Resorts World. A kind man, who goes by the name of Mr Tan, had salvaged these precious logs, and kept them in a rented nursery until he decided that the rental was too steep for long term and had to donate them. These logs that have been planed, sanded down and sealed with lacquer will be put to good use at Mi Casa Su Casa for display of sculptural artworks, as well as outdoor furniture. Estamos cansados, pero felices. Here are some videos of the process. We've just received a couple of submissions! Here's Puspita who came personally to install her sculptural works. After some deliberation about the available spaces, we finally had them installed in the kitchen, amongst other Mi Casa Su Casa creatures! In a recent trip to Hong Kong, we've met a couple of local artists who incorporate art into their lifestyles. Coincidentally, a local artist, Ng Ka Chun (Hei), had organised an exhibition called '我爱我家' or 'I Love My Home' while we were there, and instinctively, we knew we had to invite him to contribute to Mi Casa Su Casa without delay! This is an object piece which we collected from Hei at the Kam Sheung Road MTR Station. He will be holding 2 workshop sessions on 21s and 28th July on making your own wooden spoons from scratch. Please sign up with him if you're in Hong Kong! The fed ex post had this package delivered before I returned. It's from Alex Thebez who is currently residing in US! This came along with some hand written instructions on how to mount his works, as well as some self published zines, which will be displayed for viewing during the show.
We've got another parcel due for collection. Can't wait for Monday to do so! Thanks guys for being punctual! It has made our day! FREE ADMISSION, 11th August 7.30pm: The Devil and Daniel Johnston is a 2005 documentary film about the noted American artist Daniel Johnston. It chronicles Johnston's life from childhood up to the present, with an emphasis on his experiences with bipolar disorder, and how it manifested itself in demonic self-obsession. Watch Trailer here and see you! On the 13th of August, Mi Casa Su Casa will also be hosting the 8th edition of the Anthropologists Anonymous sessions, where a discussion revolving about the theme of HOME will take place.
It's where our cardiac muscles rest, bask in the glow of the hearth and scream at the kids. It's where forests are wiped, people buy things in the supermarket that affects other people's homes, and the marginal is persecuted. Home is happy, home is sad, home is both good and very, very bad. Where, what and how is this thing called "home"? You don't have to be an anthropologist to take part! All are welcome! Here's the events page! https://www.facebook.com/events/191655764332042/?fref=ts If you'd like to, please read some articles provided by Anthropologists Anonymous. They can be found here here.
