OMAHKU offers visiting artists an immersive cultural experience living in a kampung (village) in the heart of South Yogyakarta. This residency encourages self-initiated work with days spent overlooking a padi field across a small stream.

Great for city-slinging emerging artists who are interested in experiencing art creation at a slower pace of life, time ​away from a usual routine, and a space for reflection and retreat in a culturally rich landscape.

OMAHKU is a artist-run space. Visiting artists will be assisted by your hosts, who engage with Printmaking, Book Binding, Batik, Sculpture, and Carpentry. They will support you with links to forge relationships and collaborations, arrange art walks, studio visits and workshops, and most importantly, finding inspiration to create. You will reside in a English speaking household. Other residents include 3 cats, some geckos, fireflies after dark and the occasional baby cobra.

OMAHKU is located in the city of Yogyakarta (Jogja), where people live and breathe art. Jogja is a student city, and is also one of the best places in South East Asia to experience contemporary art in a casual, down-to-earth setting. Situated in Dusun Ngrame (sub-village), Tamantirto (village), Kasihan (sub-district), ​Bantul (town), Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (province), South Java, Indonesia, the property is a semi-ethnic, Javanese house (limasan) with its premises built within a gated complex.

OMAHKU is located a stone's throw away from UMY (Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta). Hence, access to value for money meals and snacks will not be a problem as the area is scattered with boarding rooms (kos) for students attending the school. Pasar Gamping is a 10 minute cycle if you ​need to stock up groceries for home cooking.

KAMARMU is a 20 meter square private work studio, equipped with a modular desk for visiting artists to
start work. Basic stationery, lamp, sufficient shelving, some reference books and a welcome kit will help
kick start your stay. Have your shower in a personal bathroom 1m away and unwind on the queen sized
bed for the night. Your studio door and windows can be locked for safety and privacy. What's more?
Unlimited WIFI connection, which will keep you up to date with news from the art scene and back home.
